Teachers and parents within Uriri Constituency have expressed their gratitude towards the area Member of Parliament for food donations during the KCPE examinations.
Hon. Mark Nyamita had donated rice, beans and cooking oil to primary schools within his constituency to cater for lunch meals as the candidates sat their three day exams.
According to Uriri Primary School head teacher who is also the Kenya Primary School Heads Association Treasurer Rose Otieno, all the 102 primary school within Uriri Sub-county benefited from the MPs kitty according to the number of their candidature.
“I want to appreciate the efforts of the Member of Parliament for Uriri to support leaners especially those from poor families through food donations during the national exams. Most parents are unable to afford meal for their children during exams and as teachers, we are grateful since this gives us easy time as exam centre managers to prepare the candidates,” said Rose.
She also noted that the legislator has shown goodwill towards education to the children of the Uriri through bursaries, and infrastructural development in all school from within the region, adding that his efforts will help create and develop a stable future for the learners in their career paths.
Isaac Midai a parent at Rombe Primary School told Education News that the move by the Member of Parliament towards supporting candidates and parents during exams is a gesture of humanity towards the less fortunate in the society as he gives equal opportunity to the learners during exams to compete fairly.
William Mbeche, the constituency coordinator noted that the kitty costed Sh800,000, saying that it was not from the NG-CDF but from the legislator’s own account.
Mbeche also revealed that other than the food donations to schools, the MP also organized for success cards to both primary and secondary schools, something he said is meant to encourage all the candidates within the constituency to face the national exams with courage and confidence.
Hon. Nyamita who has also won several awards since his election into office as the Uriri MP in 2017 as the best MP within the county, on his side noted that he started the initiative immediately he got elected into office as the Member of Parliament following his experiences during his childhood days in school.
“Having done my primary school education at Rapogi Primary School within the constituency, I saw most of my classmates get late for the afternoon national exam papers or stay hungry at school to be able to start their exams in time. This made most of them fail in exams but I vowed to change the narrative through food donations to give all the candidates equal opportunity of time in exams.” Said Nyamita.
He noted that his major interest is to see the education sector grow and not only through improved infrastructure in the schools but also through better grades in the national exams.
