MP initiates programme to empower jobless graduates

Rangwe Constituency Member of Parliament Lilian Gogo has launched an initiative to empower jobless graduates to assist them to secure jobs.

The programme targets unemployed graduates from five years ago with degrees, diplomas and certificates.

“I did an assessment in my constituency and discovered that some of them have been jobless for more than five years yet people assume they live comfortably,” Gogo said.

Speaking during the launch of the programme in Rangwe, Homa Bay County, the MP noted that the graduates will be mentored by a variety of professionals on how to apply their skills in self-employment and also on how to apply for government jobs.

So far 38 of these graduates have been identified and christened Critical Thirty-Eight.

“As politicians, it is important to adhere to our social contract of empowering the youth, not using them for ulterior motives,” she said.

Jerim Onguru, one of the beneficiaries applauded the programme terming it a game-changer in their lives.
