North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko has cleared the air surrounding the alleged stalled establishment of Nyamira University.
He blamed the disunity among leaders from the region as the main obstacle facing the establishment of the proposed University, but expressed hope for its accomplishment soon.
“Our leaders have varied views about the location of the University, which is healthy, but as for me, my minds are focused there because I am supporting it with the whole of my heart,” he said.
The MP said that his NG-DCF office has put aside Shs 20 million towards the construction of the University at Kiabonyoru Secondary School. He asked his counterparts from West Mugirango, Borabu and Kitutu Masaba, Steve Mogaka, Patrick Osero and Clive Gisairo, respectively, to channel money to the University for its quick take off.
The MP told residents to put their political differences aside and unite for the common purpose of supporting education and development projects in the region.
He gave a long history that led to the delay of the construction of Nyamira University, which is now overdue.
He said that the latest visibility study team from Kisii University, led by Prof Christopher Ngachi, visited different proposed sites and settled at Kiabonyoru Secondary School as the most appropriate site, although some leaders from the area did not support the idea.

Those opposing the establishment of the University at Kiabonyoru Secondary School include Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo, West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka, Borabu MP Patrick Osero and Nyambega Gisesa of Rigoma ward.
They say that the Kiabonyoru area lacks good accessible roads and good security for the establishment of a University that will host many young students.
According to Steve Mogaka, who challenged the establishment of the University in court but later withdrew the case, he proposed it to be built within Nyamira town because of its centrality, good road network and other social amenities like a hospital and Uhuru Gardens recreation park.
Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo argued that the University should have been constructed at Manga Subcounty headquarters because it has enough land, including Manga Stadium, and good security from the Subcounty police station in the vicinity, but Borabu MP Patrick Osero wanted it established at Simbauti farm in his constituency because of the availability of enough land.
Nyambega Gisesa argued that the University should be built at the Kiamagake area because it was identified and earmarked by the former Minister for Education and Vice President, the late Prof George Saitoti.
“Building the University at a different place will dilute the original thoughts that pioneered its establishment,” argued Gisesa.
Nyamoko appealed to residents to adhere to President Ruto’s decision to build the University at Kiabonyoru, and after its completion, they could come together and decide on other places within Nyamira where it can expand its campuses.
When education News visited Kiabonyoru site, marks of work on the ground were apparent as the Principal of Kiabonyoru High school Richard Sirimbe said that his Board of School management committee had done enough preparations to vacate the students from the school and join them in the nearby schools to create room for the establishment of the ling awaited University.
