MP dishes out Sh41 million bursaries for needy bright students

Ugenya Constituency NG-CDF has addressed the plight of bright but needy KCPE students who were called to join various National schools countrywide by awarding full scholarships and shopping to a tune of Sh41 million.

Area Member of Parliament, David Ochieng, released the bursary support for Ugenya students joining various National schools’ including the bursary support to the best two candidates in selected primary schools.

“The dwindling education fortunes in Nyanza region needs urgent address from education stakeholders hence the strategy to device this program here. It will ensure all needy KCPE candidates who receive calling letters to join national schools get full sponsorship and shopping benefits from the constituency,” revealed Ochieng.

He added: “All bursary applicants from Ugenya constituency from poor backgrounds called to join various national schools have received Sh23,000 and we will purpose to ensure we assist them progressively till they complete their education.

In the distribution, secondary school day scholars received a minimum of Sh5,000 while their counterparts in boarding secondary schools and higher learning institutions got a minimum of Sh15,000 each depending on their neediness.

He was issuing cheques to various school Principals in the presence of students and parents where he also presented shopping for students including the bibles, Kamusi, Dictionary, blankets, sanitary towels, boxes and other personal effects.

“We do not want any student to miss out, that is why we are doing whatever possible to make them comfortable in the schools to perform even better in KCSE and its my assurance that every parent whose child gets placed in a secondary school must get NG-CDF bursary support,” he said.

He said the funds are aimed at enabling students from financially challenged families to acquire education.
