MP denies link to CDF bursary scam

Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali has denied involvement in the alleged controversial award of bursaries in his constituency.
The MP said the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is handled by the National Government through managers who are independent and any complaint should be channeled to the CDF committee.
He said he is just a patron of the fund and is not directly involved in its management.
He also denied firing three former staff menbers of the committee.
“I was not in any way involved with issuance of bursaries,” he said.
The three Fadhili Hassan, Joshua Musyimi and Ruto Ng’etich said their contracts ended and were not renewed.
The fund manager Mamo Michael had informed Hassan through a letter that Nyali CDF committee had decided not to engage his services.
Ali’s lawyer Paul Momanyi said the MP is a man of good moral standing and does not steal from his people and has no power to fire any person in the committee.
The MP linked the accusations to opponents who, he said ,have been trying to undermine him.
Two MCAs from the region, Frere Town’s Charles Kitula and nominated MCA Fatma Kushe had said the EACC is investigating the matter, but Ali said was not aware of any investigations.
The MCAs had alleged the committee had given bursaries to ghost students saying they had personally found out the names of those who benefited were not in the said schools.
