Bondo MP Dr. Gideon Ochanda has swiftly moved to assist Barkowino Secondary School after a fire caused by an electric fault razed down a 120-capacity girls’ dormitory.

Last week, an early morning fire gutted down the St. Catherine girls’ dormitory while students were in class.

The fire burnt Students’ personal belongings and rendered the dormitory inhabitable.

The area MP who immediately visited the school donated mattresses to all the affected girls including buying their personal belongings.

He also quickly began the renovation of the dormitory while assuring the victims that the hostel will be completed quickly to allow for use.

During the ordeal, it took a prompt response from the Principal who was able to mobilize the students and teachers who managed to put off the fire before it could spread to adjacent blocks.

The 120 girls lost virtually all their belongings prompting the area MP Dr. Gideon Ochanda to intervene.

Investigations by the multisectoral team led by the area security team established that the fire was a result of an electric fault.

Speaking when he visited the school, Dr. Ochanda counseled the students and advised them to stay focused even as his office strives to ensure normalcy is quickly restored.

“Barkowino is one of our best-performing secondary schools in the sub- County.

We regret the unfortunate incident that occurred but we are glad no life was lost, we assure the school of the necessary assistance to help the students enjoy their study in this great school,” assured the MP.

The MP noted that his office (NG-CDF) does not construct or rehabilitate school infrastructure that is razed down due to acts of arsons or students misbehaviors stating that such are left to parents.

“My policy is very clear, we only assist schools in cases of fire destruction only if the causes are purely accident in nature and not irresponsible acts of students indiscipline.

This has resultantly reduced incidences of school fires because the students and the community have had to bear the costs,” the MP affirmed.
