Makueni constituency Member of Parliament Susan Kiamba has called upon the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to follow the right procedure in employment of teachers, saying that education can never be politicized.
She called upon TSC to respect their mandate in this country adding that education can never be politicized.
“Let us politicize everything else but not education. TSC kindly know that you are paid by the taxpayers and no political alignment can give you the resources and salaries you need,” she said.
She was speaking while issuing revision books to all the schools in her constituency and especially targeting day schools which have been very vulnerable in terms of resources like text books, the legislature noted that there are teachers who have never been employed for 15 years and someone else comes out and in less than a year and gets employed.
“While there are so many trained teachers, what people are getting is allegedly teachers coming out with employment letters yet they have not gone to any interview, while there are so many teachers who have not been employed and they qualify,” Kiamba lamented.

The MP further noted that capitation still remains a challenge saying that it doesn’t come in time and even when it’s released its too little to cater for anything thus making schools accrue debts making it hard to pay suppliers.
“When the government doesn’t release capitation the little money paid by students cannot meet the demands of education. Surprisingly principals are depressed because of running schools without funds,” the legislature said.
Kiamba added that the situation has even been made worse by the policy of issuing school certificate without clearing fee.
“Schools used to get money to boost them when learners used to clear fees before issuance of certificates, it’s now said that they pick the certificates. Where do you expect schools to get money from,” Kiamba.
