MP Barasa launches Ksh5.5M library, ICT center

Kimilili lawmaker Didmus Barasa has launched an Information Communications Technology (ICT) center and a library in his constituency to serve neighbouring schools and the community.

The MP said that the library, located in Kimilili town, will go a long way in serving Kamusinga National School, Kimilili Girls Secondary School, Kimilili DEB Primary School, St. Luke’s Kimilili Boys High School and Matili Secondary School among other institutions in Bungoma County.

He added that the facility will also serve College and University students who need to do research.

Speaking on Monday during the launch, Barasa said he decided to establish a library after realizing that many students drawn from his constituency are finding it hard to access library services.

Barasa noted that the facility, worth Ksh5.5 million from the NGCDF kitty, will be equipped with internet, computers and all varieties of books.

“The library won’t only have books but also internet connected computers to give way for those doing research,” he said.

He added; “The government has initiated over 5,000 of its services online therefore this center will also give way to the community to access them because there will be a free WIFI here.”

Bungoma County CECM for Gender, Culture and Sports Agnes Wachiye lauded the MP for the bold step affirming that the county government has officially taken charge of the library.

“Now that in Bungoma we don’t have any other library, this one is going to serve as our county library, we shall equip it to serve our people,” she said.

Barasa later commissioned eight classrooms worth Ksh13 million shillings at Kimilili DEB Primary School noting that his office is determined to improve standards in the area education sector.
