Suna West Member of Parliament (MP) Hon. Peter Masara has been awarded a Honorary Doctorate in Humanity by Leadsway Institute Ministerial Arts International in conjunction with PEFA Church.

Masara, who together with other forty graduands were awarded at PEFA church in Nyabisawa, Suna East constituency, received the honors following their major contributions to the society.

While addressing the press after the occasion, the second term MP expressed his gratitude to the church leadership for seeing it best to recognize and award his efforts towards changing the living standards of the people of Suna West, noting that the gesture has rejuvenated his strength and spirit to remain committed to the people he represents at the National Assembly.

“I’m grateful to the church and Leadsway Institute of Ministerial Arts for the recognition of my deeds and this encourages me to do more service to the people of Suna West. It’s a clear indication that the achievements I’ve made as the area MP are clearly recognized and appreciated,” said Masara.

He however objected the utterance by the Basic Education Permanent Secretary Belio Kipsang who said that the government was mulling over closing down boarding schools, saying such institutions play major roles in promoting education across the nation especially in areas affected by early marriages or pregnancies following high rates of poverty in those areas.

Masara noted that his constituency was among the regions whose education standards had risen due to availability of boarding learning institutions as most girls tend to drop out of schools before sitting their secondary national examination as gold mining in the area continues to pose a threat to their future.

“Today I can proudly report that the number of learners who have been able complete their secondary school education and are already registered in higher learning institutions across the country from this constituency have gone up and majorly because we have more boarding facilities which have helped reduce the interaction between learners and outsiders who tend to divert their attention from academics,” he added.

He called on consultations between the Ministry of Education and all education stakeholders before a decision is made over the matter calling for a consultative method of leadership for the sake of citizens who deserve respect and quality services.

Among other leaders who also received the Honorary Doctorate included the Migori County first lady Agnes Ochilo Ayacko and former Oruba Ragana ward MCA Malan Ogenga.
