MP asks principals to help identify needy students

By Kamundia Muriithi

Mbeere South MP Geoffrey King’ang’i has called on secondary school principals to come up with a clear plan on how to identify needy learners who will benefit from the Constituency Development Fund.
Speaking after he disbursed Sh4.5 million worth of bursaries to schools, King’ang’i alleged that the selection of beneficiaries had been infiltrated by corruption and nepotism, which had denied deserving cases the assistance.
He said henceforth he will ensure the list of beneficiaries and the amounts allocated is publicly displayed in notice boards to enable the community vet to ensure no students from well off families are considered while those from poor backgrounds are left out.
He said transparency combined with the input of school heads would enable students from needy backgrounds enjoy their right to education.
