South Mugirango Member of Parliament Silvanus Osoro, who was recently accused of harassing teachers, has defended himself saying all he was after is to see schools in his constituency being run efficiently.
Teachers who are mostly members of Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) led by Kisii County Chairman, Mr Jairus Onchoke had criticized the MP, accusing him of harassing them over management of school resources.
The legislator, while chairing the Constituency principals and heads of school conference at Nduru Boys Secondary School, defended himself saying he won’t sit down and watch resources meant for schools being mismanaged.
“I won’t sit and watch mismanagement of thriving academic institutions in my constituency or any school being run down because of mismanagement,” he stated.
He gave the example of a girls’ high school which had built a three storey building with Sh7 million whereas another school in the same area had spent Sh 5 million just to construct the ground floor of a building.
The legislator urged the school administrators to be wary of some contractors.
“Let us ensure that parents and students get value for money raised by the tax payer,” he added.
