Mother of seven who scores C+ in KCSE motivates students

“I was determined to study and I trusted God in my education, otherwise I won’t have made it,” says Florence Muia, 34.

When she dropped out of school 20 years ago, she was frustrated, but her dream to further her education was not crashed.

Last year Muia, mother of seven, surprised many in her village who believed that since she had family responsibilities she could not get anything beyond mean grade D. She attained a C+, the minimum qualification to join university under the government sponsored programme.

She dropped out of school due to lack of fees for secondary school and got married. Inside her, the dream to become a lawyer one day was kept alive.

“No one should give up on their dreams no matter how long they may take to achieve,” she said.
In 2016 Kitui Woman Representative Irene Kasalu offered to pay her fees at Nzulini Secondary School in Mwingi West Constituency through National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).

“I posted exemplary performance ever since I joined the secondary school. I always topped in exams,” recalled Muia.

She attributed her good performance to hard work, discipline and support from her teachers, students and her family especially her husband.

“It doesn’t matter for how long you have been out of school, if you have the will you can make it,” she stated.

She urged the government to initiate sponsorship programmes for the less fortunate in society.
