More learners in Nairobi county, especially those in informal schools, are set to benefit from the county’s expanding school feeding programme.

This comes after Governor Johnson Sakaja announced plans to extend the ‘Dishi Na County’ feeding programme to more schools during the launch of the programme’s 3rd phase in Umoja 1 yesterday.

Sakaja revealed that with the launch, schools in 17 sub-counties, will now benefit from the feeding programme.

“This is a dream come true. Some thought it was a joke, but now it’s a reality—every sub-county has a kitchen,” he said.

Sakaja asserted that as a result of the programme, enrolment in schools has improved since learners are assured of food provision which costs Ksh5 shillings.

“Children should not miss school because of meals, we are happy that it is now a reality in Nairobi,” he added.

At the same time, Deputy Governor Njoroge reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to students’ welfare.

“We are determined to deliver on all our commitments, and this feeding programme is a key part of that,” he said.
