A touching moment of silence was observed on Thursday afternoon at Silibwet Stadium in Bomet county before kickoff in honour of the late Raila Odinga, fondly referred to as Baba, whose passing has plunged the nation into mourning.
The emotional tribute came moments before the friendly match between Green Snipers and Bomet University, drawing a large crowd of football fans and community members who gathered to honour the memory of the iconic statesman.
Players, officials, and supporters stood in silence as the national flag flew at half-mast. The atmosphere was heavy with emotion, reflecting the deep respect and admiration Kenyans hold for Raila Odinga—one of the country’s most influential political figures and a champion of democracy, justice, and freedom.

The match that followed was both competitive and symbolic, serving as a celebration of unity and resilience—values that Baba stood for throughout his public life. Green Snipers took an early lead with a brilliant strike before Bomet University equalized in the second half. The Snipers, however, sealed the win with a late goal, ending the thrilling encounter 3–2.
Spectators described the game as more than a sporting event; it was a heartfelt gathering of Kenyans reflecting on Baba’s enduring legacy. Many fans carried small flags and wore black armbands in solidarity, symbolizing both loss and unity.
Organizers of the match praised the players for dedicating the fixture to the memory of Raila Odinga, saying sports has once again proven to be a platform for national healing and reflection.
