Mombasa County urgently requires 50 Adult Education Teachers to ensure effective teaching and learning in the region.

According to Mombasa County Director of Adult Education, Mr. Franklin Karanja the region is currently facing an acute shortage of teachers, arguing that the situation is hindering smooth learning in the literacy centres.

He further asked the government to employ more Adult Education Teachers in the country and deploy them to the region to end understaffing.

Mr. Karanja, however, stated that the Department of Adult Education plays an important role in the country by offering opportunities to adults who never had a chance to attend formal education during their early years.

The County Director of Adult Education urged all residents, education stakeholders and county residents to work as a team in order to enrol more adult learners in the literacy centres in the county.

“The trend would enhance education levels in the region”, he noted.

At the same time, Karanja asked adult education teachers in the county to improvise learning materials at their respective literacy centres to encourage learners to attend lessons regularly.

He further asked parents in the county to cooperate fully and enrol their children who dropped out of school some years back into literacy centres to continue with their studies.

“The county’s rapid development actually needed educated people who will be charged with the responsibility of designing, planning and implementing community development projects”, explained the County Director of Adult Education.

He also urged the county communities to come forward and support adult education programmes in order to make them a success.
