The Moi Girls Nangili High School in Likuyani constituency of Kakamega received recognition for its outstanding performance in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams.
The school ranked second in the county, achieving a mean score of 8.5, surpassing academic powerhouses in the region, including national schools.

Area Governor Fernandes Barasa, who attended the Thanksgiving ceremony at the school, emphasized his administration’s commitment to supporting education through a range of initiatives.
“We have upgraded school infrastructure in 26 centres of excellence across the county. We are committed to setting up a fence in this school through a fundraising drive,” stated Barasa.
The area Member of Parliament, Innocent Mugabe, affirmed his office’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure in the school using the National Government Constituency Development Fund.
“Our schools have been overlooked by the Ministry of Education in the allocation of funds for infrastructure development. Many of our schools are grappling with inadequate ablution blocks,” expressed Mugabe.
The legislator also accused the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) of being discriminatory in the hiring of teachers among schools nationwide.
“We need to audit the way TSC has been employing teachers since some schools in parts of this country have sufficient staff, while our schools have to burden parents to hire Board of Management (B0M) teachers,” emphasized the MP.

The two leaders committed to forging a working relationship towards uplifting education standards in the region through their development funds and fundraising initiatives.
They showered praise on the school fraternity for their dedicated efforts, which have enabled the school to regain its winning ways after a period of stagnation.
The school has set a target of achieving a mean score of 10 or higher in this year’s KCSE examination, with this year’s class aiming to surpass the achievements of the 2023 class.
