The Ministry of Health, MoH in partnership with the UNICEF has rolled out mass screening to the Early Childhood Development Education children under the age of five years in West Pokot County
The pilot programme which is also taking place in Wajir and Samburu counties, aims at checking and improving the health status of children between the age of 6-59 months.
In West Pokot County, 16 health facilities were identified to carry out that exercise.
For instance, Kishaunet dispensary is one of the facilities among the 16 health facilities identified for the exercise with several other stations.
According to Carolyne Cherotich a Nutritionist at Kishaunet health facility, the screening takes place on the learner’s mid, upper, and arm circumference.
“The health screening involves checking the Kilograms, Height and Weight of the child,” said Cherotich
Children from the local community also benefited from the free service provided in the school.In addition, the children were also given Vitamin A supplement to boost their health.
“I thank the Ministry of Health and UNICEF for the great service they provided to the children,”said madam Faith Ng’etich whose child in ECDE also received the free service.
