Suna West Member of Parliament has urged the Ministry of Education to partner with National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) in bid to develop school infrastructure across the country.

Hon. Peter Francis Masara who was speaking at Wiga Girls’ Secondary School said that efforts by the ministry was not adequate to change the face of the education sector without joint efforts from education stakeholders to achieve improvements in the education sector.

“The Ministry of Education should consider partnering with the NG-CDF to be able to achieve their goal of upgrading the standards of education especially through infrastructural development in schools,” said Masara.

He has also called on stakeholders to join efforts towards giving back to the society by making donations to schools and more specifically towards infrastructural development at Wiga Girls which was started three years ago and has all the buildings constructed by the Suna West NG-CDF to accommodate the growing population of over 300 students.

The Member of Parliament also challenged parents and locals of Wiga ward within the constituency to educate the girls within the area rather than marrying them off at a tender age.

“I want to call on the locals to change their mentality of marrying their daughters off in exchange for cows among other forms of wealth. The people in this region are mostly involved in the gold mining business which if not well looked into will derail the standards of education because of money that comes easy and fast even without any educational qualification,” he added.

His sentiments were also echoed by Father Nicholas Ochieng who led a holy mass at Wiga Girls on Friday during the commissioning of the newly built administration block, challenged parents to value girl-child education and to support the sector.

Rev. Ochieng applauded parents who had taken up the responsibility of ensuring their children are enrolled and attending school, saying it will go a long way in changing the status of their families in future.
