MoE invites teacher unions for debriefing meeting following State House visit

The Ministry of Education (MoE), through the State Department of Basic Education has invited teacher unions leadership to review on the implementation of the pledges made by President William Ruto during the Saturday, September 13, 2025 teachers’ State House Visit.

In circular notice signed by the Basic Education Principal Secretary Prof. Julius Bitok and directed to KNUT, KUPPET,KUSNET, KEPSHA and KESSHA heads, the ministry says the meeting is a follow up review to reflect on the outcomes and agree on the way forward following the State House meeting with the president.

“The review meeting will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the Principal Secretary’s Boardroom, Jogoo House ‘B’, 2nd floor starting at 9.00 am,” reads part of the circular.

According to PS Bitok, the agenda of the meeting shall be; debriefing on the State House engagement on September 13, agreement on the way forward and discussion on the preparations and activities for the World Teachers’ Day.

During the Teachers State House visit, President Ruto made a series of pronouncements and the signing of the Memmoranda of Understating which when implemented will have great impacts on teachers and the education sector.

Teachers have so far hailed the visit, terming it as a historic event which has unlock teachers’ employment, medical and promotion issues.

President Ruto, during the event called for the review of the teachers’ medical cover which is nearing end under the Minet. The head of state also in the MoU gave the Special Needs Education teachers one job group high, opening the ranks for their career progression.

He also emphasized on the first come first out teacher employment policy to address the issue of old teachers’ unemployment and job group stagnation, and to employ 50, 000 teachers to address the teacher shortages in Senior schools.

President Ruto also promised to give teachers the 20 per cent stake of the Affordable Housing project due to their huge contribution to the scheme.
