The Ministry of Education (MoE) has introduced a new player’s introductory form for 2026 aimed at streamlining registration and verifying the eligibility of learners participating in school sports across Kenya.

The directive, issued through the Kenya Primary and Junior Schools Sports Association under the State Department for Basic Education, outlines strict requirements for pupils seeking to participate in co-curricular sporting activities.

According to the Ministry, the form requires detailed personal information including a learner’s name, gender, class or grade, assessment number, date of birth, UPI number, birth certificate entry number and the specific game they intend to participate in.

Schools are also required to provide parents’ or guardians’ details, school information and verification by the head of the institution, including their Teachers Service Commission (TSC) number and official stamp.

According to the ministry, only learners born on or after January 1, 2011, will be eligible to participate in junior school competitions, while those born on or after January 1, 2014, will qualify for primary school sports.

The move seeks to curb age cheating and ensure fairness in school competitions.

To complete the registration process, schools must attach certified copies of learners’ birth certificates, consent letters signed by parents or guardians, and certified photographs of the athlete with the head of institution.

Junior school participants are also required to submit certified copies of their KPSEA result slips.

The ministry noted that the new measures are intended to enhance transparency, improve record-keeping and strengthen integrity in school sports management.

Education officials say the changes will help create a level playing ground and ensure compliance with national sports regulations in learning institutions.

School heads have been directed to ensure full compliance with the new requirements ahead of term one competitions.
