The Ministry of Education, (MoE) has grilled teachers at Kenana Primary School in Njoro, Nakuru County launched after the alleged of two schoolgirls humiliation by their teacher over claims of not wearing undergarments.

According to the report, the sisters, aged 16 and 11, were allegedly paraded in the school staffroom in front of more than 20 teachers.

According to Nakuru County Director of Education Victoria Mulili, a team from the ministry spent most of yesterday at the school on a fact finding mission.

She said they interviewed teachers and learners to establish the truth, and the report will be recorded to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for disciplinary action against those found culpable.

Mulili said multiple teachers were mentioned in connection with the incident, but the investigation will determine who was directly involved.

“Once the report is ready, we will forward it for further action,” she said.

Mulili also revealed that the two girls have not resumed school and that the ministry will consult them and their parents to determine the best way forward. She noted that transfers are generally not allowed mid-term, and with term ending on October 24, it would disrupt their studies.

“The Grade Nine student cannot be transferred since she is registered for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, and the Grade Four student has her end-of-term school based assessment coming up. We fear they may drop out if not properly supported. If they feel safe and assured that they will be stigmatised, they can remain at Kenana, as the nearest school is about five kilometers away.” Mulili explained.

Njoro Sub-County Director of Education George Karangu stated that the family has not yet officially reported the matter; he said his attempts to reach the family have been unsuccessful.

The girls’ mother said since the incident, her daughters have refused to return to school due to fear and embarrassment. She added that when she reported the matter to the deputy head teacher, she was dismissed and told the school leadership was unaware of the incident.
