The National Assembly has said that the Ministry of Education (MoE) has failed to educate principals of technical institutions’ on the country’s audit cycles.
The Public Investments Committee on Governance and Education chaired by Bumula MP Wanami Wamboka also blamed the laxity by the institutions’ heads to acquaint themselves with audit processes, a sign of possible under-qualification by some principals managing technical institutions at the Coast.
Some principals who had appeared before the committee failed to submit relevant and sufficient responses to audit queries raised from their financial reports by the Office of the Auditor General.

Some institutions have been operating without an internal auditor, nor an audit committee.
The MPs have attributed these loopholes to the lack of capacity by some principals. One institution had a principal who holds a Diploma in Secretarial Studies, which lawmakers questioned as such a position demands higher academic qualifications.
The committee chairperson will be making its recommendations to the Cabinet Secretary of Education on its findings.
