The Ministry of Education, (MoE) has approved Ujamaa Africa to scale up its Empowerment Transformation Training (ETT) program across Kenya in direct partnership with the ministry.
The initiative aims to reach all public school students approximately six million learners in all 47 counties by 2028.
In a letter dated August 2025 addressed to Ujamaa Africa Director Benjamin Mboya, the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Prof. Julius Bitok, acknowledged the critical role the evidence based intervention has played in combating school related gender based violence.
The program is officially recognized and supported by the Kenyan Ministry of Education, with formal partnerships established through memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and inception processes conducted at both national and county levels.
The ETT curriculum is being integrated into the national education system, with plans for delivery by public school teachers.

As of 2025, Ujamaa Africa was operating in 21 counties and will now expand its reach to all 47 counties nationwide.
During the first year of the national scale-up, more than 3,000 teachers were trained across seven counties.
Ujamaa Africa is now targeting the training of 5,000 Teacher Champions to reach over one million students and strengthen protection against sexual assault.
The expansion covers both rural and urban counties using a “hopscotch” model, in which senior trainers train master teachers, who in turn train additional teachers in remaining schools.
The scale-up is driven by strong, proven results, including a 40–50 percent reduction in the incidence of rape, a 24 percent increase in school attendance in pilot areas, and a 46 percent decrease in pregnancy-related school dropouts.
The program is supported by organizations such as CIFF, ELMA, and Grand Challenges Canada, and is actively transitioning ownership of the model to local governments in counties.
