The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced that parents and guardians will be allowed to request Grade 10 placements at senior schools of their choice during a second revision window scheduled for January 6 to 9, 2026.

The move comes in response to mounting complaints from parents and stakeholders over the initial placement exercise.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba confirmed the decision in a statement issued on January 2, noting that the review period will give families an opportunity to present legitimate and verifiable grounds for reconsideration of earlier placements under the Competency‑Based Curriculum.

“Learners will have a further opportunity to apply for review of their placement from 6th January to 9th January, 2026. The revision will provide parents, guardians and learners the chance to justify a reconsideration of the initial or revised placement,” the statement read in part.

Ogamba clarified that the second revision phase will be limited to cases where parents and learners can demonstrate valid reasons for seeking a change, as the government works to balance access to education with optimal use of available school spaces.

Ogamba explained that requests may be initiated through the learner’s junior school or directly at the senior school of interest, depending on the circumstances.

Heads of institutions will submit applications through the placement portal, with processing guided by protocols already issued by the ministry.

The first revision of Grade 10 placements was concluded on December 29, 2025, and joining instructions for learners already placed have been available online since December 30.

At the same time, the ministry confirmed that all basic education institutions will reopen for Term One of the 2026 academic year on Monday, January 5. Regional and county directors of education have been tasked with monitoring reopening and ensuring adherence to the official calendar.
