A third-year Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) student is recovering in hospital after he was allegedly scalded on the face with boiling water by his girlfriend at his home in Umoja 1 Estate, Nairobi, on the eve of Valentine’s Day.

According to the reports, Steve Godia was asleep when the attack occurred following a heated disagreement with his girlfriend earlier in the evening.

The confrontation allegedly arose after she challenged him over continued communication with a former girlfriend.

As the tensions escalate, the suspect is said to have boiled water and poured it over the face of Godia while he a sleep, leaving him with severe burns, swollen eyes and in extreme pain.

Fortunately, Godia was rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital by neighbours, where he remains under doctors’ watch and treatment.

CCTV footage from the apartment shows the suspect fleeing the building immediately after the incident.

Godia claims that she also stole his two mobile phones and transferred about Ksh318,000 from his bank account, leaving him with only Ksh7.

He is now appealing for support to cover medical bills and continue his education as he is financially strained at the moment.

The incident has been reported to police, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities have confirmed that the suspect is still at large and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

The attack has sparked concern among fellow students and the wider community, highlighting the dangers of intimate partner violence and the vulnerabilities faced by students balancing personal challenges and academic responsibilities.
