Multimedia University, (MMU) student Erick Mutinda has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his classmate Sylvia Kemunto, whose body was found, dumped in a hostel water tank earlier this year.
Mutinda, who surrendered to police in Sultan Hamud on April 4 and allegedly confessed to killing the 20-year-old student, has now changed tune in court.
On Thursday, he entered a not guilty plea even as a psychiatric report declared him mentally unstable and unfit to stand trial.
Kemunto, 20, disappeared on March 30 after attending church. Witnesses say Mutinda, a first-year Electrical Engineering student, was the last person to visit her hostel room and was later spotted with a suitcase allegedly linked to her. Days later, her decomposing body was retrieved from a sealed rooftop tank after a two-hour operation.
