As the government put in place measures for smooth resumption of face-to-face learning, Mount Kenya University (MKU) has recalled its final-year Medicine students.
This comes after the Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha directives in his speech today during the 63rd graduation at University of Nairobi saying that all science-based students should return to their respective institutions.
“Following the education stakeholders meeting on 21st September, I am happy to report that the stakeholders resolved to allow science-based students to return to their universities, especially those in the final year, to clear the way for them to complete their programme. Earlier, we had allowed medical students in their final year to resume learning. We hope that necessary measures are in place in our universities to ensure compliance with all Ministry of Health protocols as students start returning,” reads the speech.
In a statement by the Registrar, Academic Administration MKU Dr. Ronald G. Maathai, reporting dates for Bachelor of Science in Clinical and Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery Final Year Students will be 28th September2020 to the 2nd October 2020 for phase one face-to-face teaching, which is set to resume on Monday, 5th October, 2020.
The University has also recalled Bachelor of Pharmacy and Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology final year students on similar dates after the Pharmacy and Poisons Board authorized classroom learning for final year Pharmacy Students as opposed to online learning.
This comes after the Head of Infectious Disease Unit at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and a member of the education stakeholders Dr Loice Ombajo, said last week coronavirus cases had hit below five per cent infection rate for the past one week.
