Mixed reactions continue to trail the planned conversion of Aldai Boys High School into Kaimosi Friends University, with local stakeholders strongly objecting the move, citing disruption of learning and lack of public participation.
Community members from the region have faulted the plan, arguing that it would deny local children access to secondary education. Led by Alice Kirui, the stakeholders claimed that the decision was made without adequate consultation, contrary to constitutional requirements.
“This process did not involve the community as required by the Constitution. We were never consulted, yet this school belongs to the people,” said Kirui while addressing the press.
She noted that students already placed at the school are anxious and uncertain about their future, as indications suggest the transition may proceed despite opposition. “The students are confused and worried because they don’t know where they will study if this plan goes on,” she said.

Kirui further maintained that Aldai Boys High School is a community institution and not the property of any individual. “As the main stakeholders, we will do everything within our means to ensure that learning is not disrupted,” she added.
Her sentiments were echoed by Rachel Kirwa, who pointed out that the transition plan comes at a time when admission of Grade 10 students is ongoing. “Grade 10 admission is currently underway, so converting the school now will cause serious confusion for parents and learners,” Kirwa said.
However, area Member of Parliament Maryanne Keitany defended the proposed conversion, saying it would enhance access to higher education in the region. “Upgrading the institution to a university will open more opportunities for our youth and reduce the distance they travel to access higher education,” the MP said.
The debate has continued to divide opinion in the region, even as calls grow for broader consultations before any final decision is made.
