Missing Homa Bay head teacher found dead in a well

Richard Kobe died in a well after disappearing from home.

A primary school head teacher in Kisii County who went missing last week has been found dead in a well near his home in Aloo estate within Oyugis town, Homa Bay County.

Richard Otieno Kobe, the head teacher of Raganga Primary School, was found dead on Sunday morning after missing for five days.

According to his younger brother Gilbert Kobe, the teacher went missing on Tuesday April 16 at night. He left home without his mobile phone and never told anyone where he was going.

The following day, the family began looking for him and reported to the police before proceeding to Lida trading centre in the neighbouring Rachuonyo North Sub-County after some people hinted that they had seen someone who resembled him.

The body was retrieved by his son who had gone to fetch water from the well.

Rachuonyo South Police Commander confirmed the incidence and said that a team of security officers have been assigned to investigate the matter.

“The teacher was found dead after his family reported him missing and the matter is being investigated,” Wachira said.

Homa Bay KNUT official Patrick Were described the death as a serious setback to the teaching fraternity, asking the police to expedite investigations into the matter.

“We are still wondering how he got into the well. There are a lot of suspicions about how the teacher died,” Were said.

The body has been taken to Rachuonyo South Sub-County Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
