The Ministry of Education has warned teachers against holiday coaching.

In an internal memo to all county directors of education, the ministry’s Principal Secretary Dr Julius Jwan said that teachers involved in holiday coaching will be arrested and charged in law courts.

He added that schools involved in these offences shall be deregistered and registration certificates be revoked.

“The official school terms must be followed strictly and anyone flouting the directive will face the wrath of the law,’’ said the PS.

According to the calendar the next term which opens on 26th July will have half term from 26th august 2021 to 2th August 2021 and close on 1st October.

The  circular which gave the stipulated term dates for pre-primary ,primary, and  secondary and teachers; colleges  further says following consultation with stakeholders, the revised term dates were agreed upon in order to cover the remaining two terms in 2020.

The 2020 school term dates were disrupted by Covid-19 in March 2020 when schools went on abrupt closure for nine months.

According to the circular the school calendar will stabilize in 2022.

The circular said all school offering international curriculum were also opened on 4th January 2021, and all four year olds will join PP1 in July 2021 and all grade four CBC learners will transit to grade five in July 2021 and incoming form one (class 8 graduates) will stay at home as other learners complete their term 3 and resume in July.

The ministry asked county directors of education to produce enough copies of the circular to field officers and basic education institutions under their jurisdictions.
