Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Nakuru branch has called on the government to disburse funds meant for secondary school co-curricular activities to facilitate smooth running of term two games.

The branch Executive Secretary Duncan Macharia noted that the tendency to delay the funds greatly affect operations in schools.

Macharia said that the activities play a vital role in education and should be accorded the seriousness it deserves.

“Co-curricular activities are a very important part of the education system because it is part of learning. They play a critical aspect in the holistic development of students,” he said.

He added: “The government should prove its commitment by disbursing funds to schools on time so that our students continue to have thorough preparations and actively participate in term two co-curricular activities.”

The Unionist also requested the Ministry to release the funds directly to school accounts.

He said that for the last few years, co-curricular activities have been funded by KESSHA due to the perennial delays.

Macharia said that the most affected schools are sub county schools because majority of them lack adequate finances causing them to defer the activities.
