Ministry releases 2023 school calendar

State Department of Early Learning and Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Jwan has released the 2023 academic calendar  which will lead to the return of the normal academic calendar which was disrupted by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic .

Speaking to the press, he said that the initiative was taken to mitigate the spread of the Corona virus where students were forced to go back home for almost a year.

“Pre-primary, primary and secondary schools will  open on January 23 and close on April 21, 2023 after 13 weeks,” he stated.

Students will have a two-week break in April instead of the usual four weeks.

The August holiday is expected to run for two weeks beginning 12th till 27th for pre-primary, primary and secondary schools.

Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs), whose first term started on August 29 and ends on December 2, 2022, will have their second term kick off on January 23 until April 21, 2023.

According to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), the KCPE national exams are scheduled to begin from November 6th  to 9th while the KCSE exam will commence November 10th to December 1st.

The rest of the learners will get a two-month break from 3rd November until 23rd January.
