Senior Ministry of Education Directors have denied media reports that some officers who previously held certain positions before being redeployed have been demoted.

Some of the officers clarified that they had been redeployed since their job groups and salaries remained intact.

Nyanza Regional Director of Education (RDE) Nelson Sifuna said that government officers could work in any position with their job groups adding that such deployments are normal in public service.

“For example, Mr. Sifuna can work at the sub-county, county, and even at the region with the same job group and salary,” he said.

Sifuna was reacting to a story exclusively carried by Education News on Tuesday this week which reported extensively on the changes made by the Ministry of Education on its field staff.

The Ministry had transferred a good number of Sub-County Directors (SCDEs) as well as promoted others to full Directors. Others who were former County Directors of Education (CDEs) were deployed to serve at sub-counties.

Those affected by the latter decision include former CDEs Nicholas Oyucho and Boniface Ouko who were posted to serve at sub-counties in what appeared to be a climb-down from their previous positions.

However, Sifuna was quick to pour cold water on the allegations stating that the officers were merely deployed to new stations while retaining their benefits.

During the recent changes, Oyucho was sent to Sabatia as the new SCDE while Ouko was dispatched to Mumias East as the Sub-County boss.

Also affected by the movements was Beatrice Ogwe who transferred from Elgeyo Marakwet to Siaya replacing Aneriko Maloba who passed on recently.

Samwel Marigat moved from Kirinyaga to Kisumu while Ibrahim Rugut moved from Kisumu to Elgeyo Marakwet.

Nyeri TSC Deputy Director, Keziah Mugure, got a promotion and will be the new Kirinyaga boss, replacing Dr. Marigat.

Seasoned Deputy Director Francis Saina was promoted and takes over in Busia, replacing Charles Nyauma who retired recently.
