Ministries begins exercise of sending absentee form ones to class

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government are set to conduct a nationwide exercise to mop up learners who have not reported to secondary school to do so.

Cabinet Secretary for Education, Prof. George Magoha will lead the exercise from today.

Director for Secondary Education, Mr. Paul Kibet noted that majority of the 47 counties had registered impressive admissions of form ones by the official close of form one reporting a week ago.

He noted that the 100% transition policy demands that all learners who sit for Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams should have secondary education.

He added that through the exercise, the ministries will inform Kenyans about Form one reporting trends of students nationally.

He added that the government will ensure all eligible learners report to form one in their nearest day secondary school.

The Director added that Ministry officials will work together with the officials of the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to mop up learners who had not reported to secondary schools as expected and advised.

The Constitution and the Basic Education Act, provides for free and compulsory basic education for all children regardless of the status, gender and other considerations that might hamper children’s access to education. The implication of the right is that the government is expected to provide free education for children from Pre-primary, primary and secondary education.
