Nakuru County marked a major stride in education development as Governor Susan Kihika commissioned 498 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers into the County Public Service on permanent and pensionable terms.

The event, held this week, drew teachers, county leaders, and education stakeholders from across the region.

Governor Kihika said the decision reflects her administration’s deep commitment to uplifting foundation-level education across all 55 wards. “I commissioned 498 ECDE teachers who have officially joined the Nakuru County Public Service on permanent and pensionable terms,” she announced.

“These teachers will now serve in public ECDE centers, bringing us closer to our goal of ensuring that every child in Nakuru has access to quality foundation-level education.”

She described the commissioning event as an emotional moment, shaped by the moving stories of teachers who had long served under difficult terms, including contracts and Board of Management arrangements.
“This moment was profoundly moving,” she said. “I listened to heartfelt testimonies from teachers who have served diligently for years on contract or under the Board of Management’s payroll.”

Governor Kihika emphasized that this milestone is just the beginning. She assured the public that her administration will continue to onboard more ECDE teachers progressively, based on available resources.

“I assured them that, as promised during my campaign, we will continue onboarding more ECDE teachers progressively, funds permitting,” she reiterated.

The Governor urged the newly appointed educators to uphold the highest standards of service.

“I urged the new teachers to serve with passion, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to nurturing the next generation,” she said.
She also lauded the success of the Uji Program, which has significantly boosted ECDE enrolment—from 59,000 to 65,000 learners in just one year—and led to the expansion of learning centers from 1,003 to 1,068.

Governor Kihika highlighted ongoing investments in child-friendly infrastructure, including age-appropriate classrooms, terrazzo flooring, ceilings, modern toilets, water tanks, and furniture designed for young learners.

“We remain committed to providing every child in Nakuru County with the best possible start in life through education,” she stated.

She extended her gratitude to P. M. Njoroge, Chair of the County Assembly Education Committee, Charles Mwai, Chairman of the County Public Service Board, and other officials for their support in making the event a success.

The 498 teachers now join the public workforce with a renewed sense of purpose, stability, and recognition—paving the way for stronger early childhood education in Nakuru County.
