Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko came to the aid of two school girls in Kilungu, Makueni County, after encountering them in visibly poor condition.
While on his way to visit students he sponsor at Precious Blood Girls Kilungu, Sonko encountered several young pupils walking home from school — among them, two girls whose state deeply moved him.
One of the girls wore a torn sweater and a dirty white shirt that had turned brown from repeated use. Upon speaking to her, Sonko learned she only owned one shirt, which she had worn for the entire school term. Another girl had a completely torn school bag.

Deeply affected by their plight, Sonko took immediate action. Finding a uniform shop open at Nunguni Centre, he purchased two new shirts and a sweater for the first girl and a new school bag for the second. He later shared the experience on his social media, writing:
“Haki ya Mungu life is hard huku mashinani… I was very much saddened by their situation and had to look for an immediate temporary solution to their problem.”
Sonko also promised to return to Kikoko Primary School with what he termed as a “big surprise” for the pupils.
The gesture has drawn widespread admiration from Kenyans online, many applauding Sonko for his continued efforts to support vulnerable communities, especially schoolchildren in rural areas.
