MIGORI TEACHER ATTACKED AND EJECTED FROM CLASS

A teacher at Bondo Kosiemo mixed secondary school in Nyatike sub-county has been rejected by area residents.

The residents claimed the teacher was responsible for property that was burnt down at the principal’s premises within the school compound.

However the sub-county director of education Elijah Kongere  who confirmed the incident and was reluctant to give the teacher’s identity, has condemned the move by the locals for not following the right channel and acting on allegations that have not been substantiated through police investigation.

Kongere warned that anybody found to have taken part in the act will be arrested and prosecuted since his office is working with the police to bring justice; he confirmed that the teacher had been rescued from the public by the police and was now safe.

“It is unethical and uncalled for move to storm a learning institution sending away a teacher especially one employed by the government through the Teachers service Commission on allegation that has not been confirmed,” said Kongere, adding that anyone who attacks a teacher especially on their working stations will not be left to go scot free.

He urged the locals to allow the police to carry on with their investigations without any interference.

“Parents and community members living around school should embrace dialogue in case of any arising concern asserting that they must desist from attacks on teachers,” he added.

According to the locals who addressed the press, they opted to take action into their own hands since the police were reluctant and had failed to take action and arrest the teacher they accused of torching property in the principal’s school premises even after they had reported the case to them.
