Migori’s form three student perishes in Azimio protests

Stephen Okinyi, a form three student at Rabuor Kogello Secondary School in Nyanza is among the victims of the recent protests in the Country by the opposition.

Okony is said to have passed on after a bullet pierced through his thighs leading to his untimely demise.

At least seven people have died In Nyanza region following the protests as medics continue fighting to save the lives of more than 20 people injured from injuries caused by crude weapons and bullets.

Okinyi had just returned home to collect school fees when he decided to satisfy his curiosity as unrest rocked the town.

According to relatives, the 19-year old left their house in Suna West, Migori County, on Wednesday to witness protesters engage police in running battles.

His family knew he would return home in minutes but after about 20 minutes, they were informed that Okinyi was fighting for his life following a gunshot.

“He had returned home because of school fees when went out to see what was happening, and within 20 minutes, we received reports that he had been shot,” said Okinyi’s brother, Barack Ochieng.

Barack is now in pain and is yet to come to terms with his Brother’s death only moments after they had been together.

The student was first admitted to Oruba Nursing Home before being transferred to a private hospital in Migori town, where he is said to have succumbed.

His body was later moved to Migori County Referral Hospital’s morgue.
