Migori County has set aside a whopping Ksh77 million towards the establishment of 140 Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) classrooms as a baseline for all other education levels.

Governor Ochilo Ayacko revealed this as he hosted a group of Senators who had paid him a courtesy call, saying the money was a portion of the 10 billion allocated to the county in the 2023-2024 Financial Year (FY).

This, he said, was a response to the views of the public through public participation that the county budget must focus on ECDE development.

The governor asked teachers and parents to be more accommodating of their children’s curious minds so that they develop a lifelong desire for education.

He confirmed that work had begun for 132 ECDE classrooms, while the remaining will be constructed in phase 2 of the programme.

The Senators, led by their host Eddy Oketch, lauded the governor for prioritizing education.

“As the watchdog of the taxpayers, we will always give credit where it is due and correct when necessary,” said Senator Moses Kajwang of Homa Bay.

Earlier, the Senators had visited Osiri Matanda Gold mines in Macalder Kanyarwanda Ward of Nyatike Constituency, where they warned residents against using school children as workers in the sites.
