Michuki National Polytechnic is working to introduce the Russian language as part of enhancing skills development, promoting cultural exchange, and strengthening institutional capacity to deliver quality technical education.
The Principal, Annie Mbogo, hosted a visiting delegation from Russia that expressed interest in collaborating on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), with a focus on knowledge exchange, research, and innovation.
“During the engagement, the parties discussed avenues for partnership that would enhance skills development, promote cultural exchange, and strengthen institutional capacity in delivering quality technical education,” said Mbogo.
In the Path to Russian programme, Ms Anna Semenova and Ms Anastacia Erofeeva are the language instructors responsible for introducing the Russian language in Kangema and other parts of the country.
“The students in hospitality and institutional management are eligible to undertake the Russian language as an additional unit to broaden their job prospects in global tourism, aviation, and international relations,” says Semenova, the chairperson of the initiative.
Kangema MP Peter Kihungi said students pursuing the Russian language at Michuki National Polytechnic must have scored a B+ in the KCSE and will be sponsored by the local NG CDF as part of the empowerment.

Kihungi said the language course will help students find employment in Russia and other countries in the east.
“I introduced the Russian delegation to the Michuki National Polytechnic for possible collaboration, and many students have shown interest in undertaking the course,” said the MP.
He added that the Russian language will also be taught in selected secondary schools as part of preparing the students for the international job market.
“The schools selected are Kibutha Girls, Githiga, Iyego and Muguru secondary schools,” said Kihungi.
