Ruiri Rwarera MCA Peter Mutuma Kalembe and his family has donated essential back to school equipment such as writing books and masks to various learners in his ward.
Addressing the learners and parents, Mr Kalembe noted that faced hardship while some of them had lost their jobs due to Covid-19 pandemic.
“We want to ensure our kids are treated equally when it comes to education. I know times are hard amidst Covid. Parents may find it difficult to buy all school equipment like books, pens and facemasks, however, I want to make this easier for them by giving each student these equipment to ensure they learn well,” he said
Kalembe added that supply of surplus face masks and sanitizers will help curb the spread of Covid-19 among learners and also help parents meet some of the cost to cushion them from the effects of the pandemic.
He said President Uhuru Kenyatta and his BBI counterpart Raila Odinga should prioritize on supporting the learners rather than focusing on BBI.
The MCA’s initiative comes after Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha told parents to buy face masks for their children once the school re-open.
Kalembe noted that children are a reflection of the society and it is therefore crucial to address their needs.
“How we nurture kids at this age matters a lot. We need to nurture kids in a positive way, because they are our future leaders,” he added.
Kalembe also called on parents and chiefs to ensure all children report back to school including those who fell pregnant.
“I appeal to chiefs and area managers to ensure that every child left in the village due to certain challenges such as pregnancy or lack of fees is integrated back in school.” he said.
Emily Kalembe , the MCA’s wife urged parents to ensure learners report to school despite Covid-19 hardship.
Mrs Kalembe called on parents to educate their children as a way to elevate the living standards in the ward.
