Men have been urged to take full responsibility for their children’s education, including paying school fees, rather than shifting the burden onto women.
Webuye East Deputy County Commissioner Peter Yegon and area Member of Parliament Martin Wanyonyi have criticized fathers who fail to support their children’s education, citing concerns over unpaid fees and poor attendance at school meetings.
The duo spoke in Webuye while opening a laboratory at Mukhuyu Primary School.
The leaders lamented that many men neglect their parental obligations, leaving mothers to shoulder the financial and emotional burden alone.

MP Wanyonyi further called on the government to strengthen school infrastructure by constructing additional classrooms for Grade 9 students and equipping laboratories with modern facilities.
He emphasized that adequate resources are crucial in ensuring students reach their academic and career aspirations.
Expressing concern over rising absenteeism, lawmakers decried cases where students fail to attend school despite their fees being covered by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF).
He warned that legal action would be taken against parents who allow their children to engage in domestic chores at the expense of their education.
The leaders called on fathers to step up and actively participate in their children’s academic journey, stressing that education remains the key to a better future.
