MCAs clash with governor over bursary disbursement

Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has blasted United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Members of County Assembly (MCAs) for politicizing the disbursement of the county`s bursary fund.

Thirteen UDA-affiliated MCAs had accused the Executive of side-lining six of their counterparts during the disbursement of bursaries totalling Ksh 1.5 million in the 25 wards across the county.

When addressing the media on Tuesday, the MCAs led by Deputy Speaker Daniel Kukan, claimed that six ward representatives had been denied a chance to take part in the disbursement of bursaries.

“We will not allow a few individuals to be side-lined based on party affiliation. We will stand in solidarity with our counterparts. We believe the six are victims of a political witch hunt,”Kukan said.

At the same time, Azimio La Umoja coalition MCAs have dismissed the allegations saying the ward bursary committee examined the names of all the beneficiaries and accused their counterparts of planning to use the bursaries to reward their supporters.

However, Governor Lenku has termed the allegations as baseless saying the bursary disbursement was done above board.

“I have no time for cheap propaganda and sideshows. My focus now is to address the challenges facing our people from drought, lack of water and urban planning among others,” he said.

He urged the disgruntled MCAs to use the relevant channels to air their grievances.
