The MCA for Masii/Vyulya Douglas Musyoka has said the County Assembly did not approve the budget for the ECDE milk that was started by the Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti.
In an interview, the MCA pointed out that the county government has its priorities reversed, arguing that ECDE teachers and classes should have been a priority.
According to him, it is important for the county government to take a keen interest in the recommendations given by the locals during public participation forums.
“When you go somewhere like Mililuni, the locals had to come together to build an ECDE class because the pupils have been learning in church. When we ask for the classes, some people change the priorities to milk distribution and the question we are asking is; is milk a priority?” the MCA said.

“Compare Machakos and Makueni and you will see the difference. Makueni employs 900 ECDE teachers, but here some schools spend a lot of money to go pick cartons of milk from the sub-county administrator’s office every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, yet the institutions have few teachers. We never approved the milk budget and next week I will ask the same question in the assembly,” he added.
The county lawmaker also faulted the bursary distribution process, wondering why it was given to sub-county administrators for distribution instead of the MCAs.
He also denied claims of fighting the county government, noting that he has only been doing his job of oversight, legislation and representation.
