Bokimonge Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Amos Onderi has asked the Ministry of Education (MoE) to provide funds to renovate Kenyenya Teachers’ Training College (TTC) whose state of infrastructure is wanting.

The MCA, who addressed education stakeholders at the college, lamented that the TTC was started more than two decades ago but its critical infrastructure lay in deplorable condition including the dining hall which forces teachers and learners to eat while standing outside.

Mr. Onderi added that training students on the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) needs a lot of preparation and underscored the importance of enough funding for the TTCs.

He noted that his office together with the Bomachoge NG-CDF office united to fund fencing of the college’s playground.

“We realized that security is paramount to the learners then consolidated funds to fence the compound,” he said.

Mr. Onderi asked the College Chief Principal Dr. Titus Shavisa to mobilize the Board of Management to market the institution in order to attract more students.

“If the college will enroll enough teacher trainees, it will be able to sustain itself from the fees that will be paid by the large number of students,” he said.

Dr. Shavisa decried the small number of students in the institution and attributed it to the MoE’s restrictions that made it mandatory for one to have a good pass in Mathematics before admission to TTCs.

Kenyenya TTC initially offered Certificate courses in P1 and Diploma in Early Childhood Development in Education but has since evolved to offer Diploma in Primary School Education and Early Childhood Development.
