An aspirant in Shieywe Ward of Kakamega County has embarked on a programme to form an education foundation that will sponsor needy and bright students through African Canadian Continuing Education (ACCESS).
Gerishom Wafula, the ACCESS advisory committee member, said only 100 students will be selected among many applicants due to lack of funds.
Speaking at Kakamega town, Wafula said he has trained many people and with his experience, he would be positioned to work better if elected.
Wafula has written a lot of publications and also wrote a book titled Research Methods Simplified. He teaches at Shamberere Technical Training Institute, where he is an HOD.
As a trainer he has vowed to encourage youth to study technical courses like plumbing, building and construction , electric and electronic engineering , and mechanical engineering which are on high demand.
He said he will lobby the county government to come up with policies and provide feeding programmes to vulnerable children within the municipality.
The aspirant promised to implement laws for the needy to create a fund that will cater for those unable to pay exam and lunch fees. With partnership with the County government, he says he will deliver mock exams to schools.
He says he will escalate ideas to the national level to ensure there are laws for free education because parents are suffering with the current high costs of living.
He urged the government to find a way of improving CBC and ensure it is well implemented with costs in mind.
