Three people, including a Member of County Assembly (MCA), appeared before a Chuka court where they were charged with the abduction and torture of a primary school teacher.

Muthambi MCA Morris Maugu, Martin Murangiri, and Pineas Muriuki, who all hail from Tharaka Nithi county, were accused of abducting Adams Kenneth Nthiga at a location within Muthambi sub-county on August 15, 2023, before torturing him.

Further, the Court heard that the three also jointly damaged a mobile phone worth Ksh18,000 belonging to the victim on August 5, 2023.

The three denied committing the two offences before Magistrate Duke Ochalo who said that the matter will be mentioned on September 18 while the hearing is set on November 3.

The lawyer representing the accused, Kirimi Muturi, pleaded with the Court to give his clients a lenient bond since they are not a flight risk and are innocent until proven guilty.

He noted that when they were arrested by police, they were released on a Ksh20,000 cash bail and have since been reporting to the instructed police station for questioning.

“I urge the court to maintain the same Ksh20,000 cash bail or even less because my clients are very cooperative,” he said.

The Court granted a bond of Ksh100,000 each or a cash bail of Ksh30,000 each.
