Mbeere South Member of Parliament (MP) has launched a Ksh 18 million bursary fund to support needy secondary school students in the area.
While launching the fund at Mutus Secondary school, Eng. Nebert Muriuki said the fund will only be disbursed to deserving students.
He urged the Principals in the constituency to bear with students struggling to pay school fees saying he will play his part to ensure the bursary funds reach them.
“I want to plead with you Principals not to send needy students home for fees. Kindly accommodate them because I am releasing the funds soon,” said the MP.
Mr Muriuki, who had a meeting with education stakeholders, said they had identified several affecting education in the area and discovered that lack of water in schools was a major problem.
Some teachers who attended the meeting proposed to have boreholes drilled in each school to ensure students have easy access of water.
However, the MP said it was not easy for each school to have a borehole as it would be expensive but noted that piped water was a sure means to provide water for all schools.
He pledged to focus on how schools in the area will be provided with enough storage water tanks for schools in dire need of water, he would contract water bourses to supply water for them.
The first term Legislator also noted that food was another challenge in the area due to failed rains and promised to engage the national government to address the issue promptly.
Mr Muriuki further disclosed that through the National Government-Constituency Development Fund, (NG-CDF) he will improve infrastructure in the area schools.
