Matungulu Girls stretched to the limit in Form One admissions

An overwhelming number of form one students who reported to Matungulu Girls High School in Machakos County on Monday have stretched the school’s facilities to its limit.

The school released 142 students after the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination in 2020 but has admitted 169 students so far this year.

The school Principal Lucy Kariuki said the government allocated 247 form one students to the school this year.

Mrs Kariuki said the school faces challenge in accommodation and furniture but promised to ensure the students are accommodated in line with the government policy of 100 per cent transition.

She said many parents preferred the school due to the good performance from last year where it posted a mean grade of 7.2 to emerge among the top ten schools in Machakos County.

She appealed to stakeholders and well-wishers to support the school’s infrastructure development in order to make the students comfortable as the number admitted was double the normal admission capacity.

“We have received an overwhelming number of students. The number was 300 which is double our capacity and so we have a challenge with infrastructure and also staffing, “she said.
