Matulo Girls students plant 500 seedlings to boost environment conservation efforts

Matulo Girls High School in Webuye West sub-county has planted 500 tree seedlings to contribute towards environmental conservation and to mitigate negative effects of climate change.

Speaking while presiding over the tree planting exercise, school Principal Florence Ludenyo noted that the Board of Management (BoM) had donated the seedlings.

She noted that the school’s tree cover had been wanting for a long time, terming the initiative as timely to accompany President Ruto’s Greening Initiative meant to ensure 15 billion more trees are planted.

“I urge the county and national governments to avail more seedlings to learning institutions to help in environmental conservation,” she added.

BoM Chairman Isaac Mukenya said that it was critical for students to plant the trees and ensure they grow to maturity.

Area Chief Barasa Misiko reiterated the Chairman’s sentiments adding that planting more trees would benefit the country as a whole.

School Captain Susan Nafula noted that they will make sure the trees flourish.
